professors gave us during LSE summer school.

LSE Summer School
In the past two years, all of us in our study
group attended LSE summer school and for every
course that we took, LSE professors emphasized
on having access to all the textbooks
recommended in the study guides.
|
|
Like most students, we never thought that
textbooks recommended for further reading were all
that necessary, until they explained to us how
missing these textbooks could risk our grades.
This is what they told us;

How students risk their grades - #1
Most students risk their grades, by using
essential textbooks only and skipping further
reading textbooks. LSE professors warned us
against this practice, because in some chapters,
authors of further reading textbooks
do a better job in explaining concepts
than authors of essential textbooks.
Some authors provide better examples, some don’t skip steps, some explain concepts with more clarity,
and some explain concepts on assumption that
their readers had no prior knowledge
of that topic.
If a student is struggling to understand a
concept from essential textbook, then they could
check the same concepts in further reading
textbooks. Unfortunately, most students don’t have these
textbooks, so they end up missing valuable input
that could help their grades.

#2 - How students risk their grades
The other way students risk their grades is
by having few textbooks to help them read
widely. For most students, all they have is
essential textbooks, unfortunately you can't
read widely with essential textbooks
only.
LSE professors advised us against studying
with essential textbooks only, as they award
students who prove they read widely with
higher marks.
We didn’t want to risk our grades, so
we took action and, paid for membership
in different university libraries to get
further reading textbooks. We found that
our professors were right, having all
textbooks helped us to improve our
understanding of concepts, we had more
textbooks to read widely and we
performed better than the previous
year.

We want everybody to succeed
Since London has the highest number of
Universities located in one city, we
thought it would be great to help other
